Our Theme: "Reaching Out and Giving Back"

President Oscar M. Laserna, M.D. FACS, who took over the helm of the SPSA July 2006, in Long Beach, California, for a term of one year, has chosen for his administration's theme: "Reaching Out and Giving Back."

One of his first official acts was to name Philip S. Chua,M.D., FACS, FPCS, SPSA Website Director. The new appointee is a past president of SPSA and Editor Emeritus of The Philippine Surgeon, who edited the SPSA official publication for 22 1/2 years, since he was named editor in 1975 by founding president Hernan M. Reyes, M.D.

"We never succeeded in our past attempts to establish a website of our own, hence I appointed Philip, who, I am most confident, will deliver and make our dream come true," Dr. Laserna stated..

"In this era of the internet, rapid communication and dissemination of information over the web, we cannot afford not to have a website, if only to reach out to our members and colleagues, for one," he continued.

"During this administration, SPSA will try to earn a place in 'history' as we reach out to connect with the world through our annual surgical missions and healthcare education program in collaboration with the PFP and the PCS, and by assisting and sponsoring Gawad Kalinga home construction for the homeless in the Philippines," the SPSA prexy explained.

Dr. Laserna also stated that "today, our efforts to promote and form global alliances with the Philippine College of surgeons, Physicians for Peace and World Surgical Missions will have more meaning and relevance to the SPSA's Mission and Vision."
