Indiana neurosurgeon Manuel Cacdac, MD, a former president of the Society of Philippine Surgeons in America and co-chair of the Society's Surgical Mission and its Convention Chair was unanimously selected to receive this year's BPinoy Awards by the Selection Committee of theBank of Philippine Islands. The award is in recognition of Dr. Cacdac's "exceptional talent and outstanding achievement in the field of medicine". The BPinoy Awards, now in its fifth year, is given to Filipinos who excel in their chosen fields of discipline at home or internationally. Past awardees include international artist Lea Salonga and Diosdado Banatao, a Filipino engineer and inventor, international fashion designer Monique Lhuillier, cardiac surgeon Jorge Garcia, BBC broadcast journalist Rico Hizon, international fashion designer Josie Natori and Cristeta Pasias-Comerford, the first female and Asian Executive Chef for the White House. Last year's awardees included Dr. Eli Remolina of the Bank International Settlement and famous painter, Mrs. Anita Magsaysay-Ho. Manny, as he is fondly called by friends recently founded the Hydrocephalus Foundation of the Philippines, helping the many thousands of babies and children in Philippines with hydrocephalus. He has also as co-chair of the SPSA's surgical missions, arranges and participates with the society's humanitarian missions to underserved areas in the Philippines for many years. The award which will be presented at Shangrila Manila on November 26,2010, comes with a P100,000 grant which Dr. Cacdac says he will donate to the Hydrocephalus Foundation of the Philippines.
